Battlestar Galactica is a series old and new set aboard the ship called Battlestar galactica . Both the 1978 series (which contains 24 episodes) and the brand new 2003 mini-series (which contains 16 episodes) follow the same storyline with the same characters. The 2003 version is overlooked as a complete re-rendering of the series which fans both approve and disapprove of.

There are two other series out there (one which was aired July 15 2005) and these are the Battlestar 1980 and the new Battlestar 2005 which will continue off exactly where the mini-series left off. (Is subject for Emmy nomination) The Battlestar 1980 only contained 10 episodes not featuring all of the main cast and is widely disregarded, the episodes are no longer shown on air and rare episodes of the series can be bought in VHS format. (No plans for DVD release are given)

[edit] Storyline

The storylines of the two series (The 1978 and the mini-series) are the same however they vary in the style that the show is shown. Major changes include the sex change of Starbuck and Boomer who have been changed from Male to Female in order to support different aspects of the story (it's the modern world, why can't women be fighter pilots anymore?)

It has been years since the Cylons attacked mankind (actual years differ from series) and the 12 Colonies of Kobol have been left in peace. It wasn't until the Cylons sent a "welcoming party" when they started attacking again (with the aid of Gaius Baltar (see series for character link)). Following a swift and deadly attack, the human race is once more reduced to a ragtag fleet of fighters, facing a final and unwinnable battle. The only hope that the remining survivors have of the 12 colonies is to pack up their bags and leave with the Battlestar to fight or find another hospitable world.

[edit] How to use this guide

I imagine this detailed guide is going to be quite hard to write as I will have to refer to both versions of the series, in order to take a definement in which series you want to look at you will have to follow the links to the actual show where the new storyline and the old storyline will be given again (with changes made for both series). So, what will it be? The New Series or The Old Series.

If you find yourself looking at the wrong character you can easily follow the link right at the top of the page whic h says "Did you mean "Person/Ships/Episodes" name?"
