It could be said that no city actual exists on Coruscant as all the cities, villages, towns that used to be inhabited on the planet grew into towering city blocks (as they were built over) and all become one, thus being 1 giant city covering the planet also called Coruscant featuring miniture towns and sub-directories in it. Underground passages and alleyways soon were plunged into darkness and in these forgotten areas lives the crime and pollution but higher up were the office places, penthouses and the industrial areas. These were the larger areas known as The Works. The other, smaller areas are for the goverment, senate, commercial zones and residential zones

The Term Coruscant in the english language means Sparkling and Glittering (thanks to Wikipedia) which is pronounced with a hard 'c' - ko'-rus-kant' - the word is pronounced Ko'-ru-sant in the Star Wars Universe.

Originally, Coruscant was to appear in Star Wars: A New Hope but because of budget problems, had to be changed to Alderaan which get's blown up. All of the action that was to appear on Alderaan had to be moved onto the Death Star set. However, in the 1997 Special Edition version of Return of the Jedi a speeder could be seen heading through the skies of Coruscant towards the end.
It's first On Screen debut was in The Phantom Menace where the Jedi council and order takes place. It features as one of the main cities in Attack of the Clones when a roaring speeder chase takes part flowing in between buildings and onto the streets with the nightclubs. In the third insallment, Revenge of the Sith, Coruscant when a major battle takes place towards the end of the Clone Wars
