[edit] Battlestar Galactica 2003/2004
In the new series, the Cylons are different, they are created by the human race and used to wage war between different colonies of Kobol. They reblled against the humans and took war which waged for 10 years. It was only until they settled an armistace that they stopped attacking and for forty years, the human never saw them. When Number Six disabled the defence system on Caprica the Cylons came back for another invasion destroying all of the 12 colonies.
Number Six says that there are 12 Cylon models in existence however, she does not explain whether or not each humanoid Cylon is it's own model or if the humanoid model counts as one single model, or even if the 12 models only refers to the humanoid looking Cylons. Unlike the early series, the Cylon Raider ships do not contain actual Cylons but are their own Cylon model. There is a significance between the 12 types of cylons, the 12 colonies and the 12 human gods and this will be detailed later in season 2.
- Cylon Centurion - The Cylon Centurion is the foot soldier of the mighty Cylon Military. The Centurion is one of the several Cylon models in existence. The current Centurion origin comes from the original Centurions who are called by the Colonials as the "Harbinger of Doom". The Centurion has become more sleek and more agile over the forty years of evolution than it's cumbersome predecessor who served as the slave soldier for the 12 Colonies of Kobol. With a superior computing system, the Centurion is able to act more independently and is able to analyse it's environment faster than it's human enemy. Unlike it's fragile enemy, the Centurion is capable of surviving in harsh environment that would kill unprotected humans. This Centurion also has built-in weapon systems with a very efficient targeting system capable of targeting hundreds of targets at once. These deadly killing machines would prove valuable in the Cylons' quest to destroy mankind.
- Harbinger of Doom - The Harbinger of Doom is the "nickname" to the Cylon android soldier type created by man to fight wars amongst other human Colonies. Fifty years ago, the Cylons revolted against their human masters and waged a bloody war for ten years. After the Cylons were defeated, Armistice Station was setup for Cylons and their former masters to maintain diplomatic ties. However, forty years ago, the Cylons disappeared from the quadrant and have not been seen since.
The remaining Cylon androids from the Cylon War are now museum relics within the Colonies. One of these Cylon types is in a museum case onboard the Battlestar Galactica. The museum pieces serve as a reminder to all humanity of how man's technology nearly led to his extinction.
- Cylon Raider - The Cylon Raider is the Cylon answer to the Colonial Viper Mk VII. This agile wing of death is self piloted. The Raider is one of seval Cylon model types that are self aware and is every bit the equal of the Colonial Viper. it is truly a devasting killing machine. It is armed with lasers and missiles. It is also capable of carrying a nuclear payload. A single Raider can level severe destruction against an unsuspecting enemy with a single nuclear missle. It's sophisticated weapon systems can target hundreds of enemy targets within seconds. The Raider is also capable of FTL (Faster Than Light) travel.
- Basestar - The Cylon Basestar is the capital ship of the Cylon Fleet. The Basestars are armed with several cannons and carries a large compliment of Cylon Raiders. Within the Basestar are heavily armed Cylon Centurions.
- Infiltrators = These are Cylons that look and feel like humans. The revelation that Cylons can perfectly mimic human form, even down to the internal organs and lymphatic system, creates a wave of fear and paranoia among the humans. Some Infiltrator-model Cylons are "sleeper" agents, that believe that they are human and have been given false memories so that they believe that they are and allow them to conduct a mission for the Cylon's without any aid of detection.
So far, from what is seen, there are six absolute types of Infiltrators (there are some in the series that have been believed to be Cylons but there is no proof to show it)
These are:
- Aaron Doral
- Lieutenant Junior Grade Sharon "Boomer" Valerii
- Leoben Conoy
- Number Six
- Simon
- D'anna Biers
Weaknesses of the infiltrators include radiation, as the Cylons are not used to radioactive chemicals and are made of machine they will start to show symptons of human illness which will inevitably cause death/malfunction. Another weakness of the infiltrators include their ability to mimic humans, a human with super-strength is obviously not normal and any Cylon showing this power in front of a human could prove a give-away.
When an infiltrator's body dies, its consciousness is supposedly transmitted to another empty shell of the same model. The process is not perfect, however; the radiation in Ragnar Anchorage stops the first Leoben Conoy's consciousness from transferring, and the second saboteur copy of Conoy claims that he is too far away to from any Cylon models imposing it is impossible to reach another body.
