Major Ivan Raidenovich Raikov is a part of the Russian military intelligence agency known as GRU Spetsnaz and is the gay lover of Colonel Volgin. He is essentially a parody of the Metal Gear Solid 2 character Raiden, who was largely unpopular with male fans of the series.

When written out in katakana, Raikov's patronymic, Raidenovich, is read as "Raiden no bitch", which essentially translates to "thunderbolt's bitch". Colonel Volgin is called "Thunderbolt" in the west.

Ovich is common in Russian surnames as it refers to "the son of..." so raidenovich would mean Son of Raiden. eg, Olga Gurlukavich, from mgs2.

Raikov is defeated and stripped by Snake, who uses his clothes to disguise himself in Groznyj Grad.

When he is stripped off by snake, he is wearing a skin-tight thong with a thunderbolt on it.

Volgin can tell when snake is dressed up as raikov because he feels his testicular region, (doesn't that tell you something!?)
