Outer Rim Territories

The Outer Rim Territories is the outer area of the Star Wars galaxy. Most of the planets with in the outer rim are uncolonised and mainly unexplored regions because of its isolation with the rest of the galaxy. The Galactic Republic has little power in these areas because of its distance, and as such they are often an excelent staging ground for criminal warlords. At the end of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire deplyed Stormtroopers to patrol the planets in this area, although they still permitted many illegal activities such as smuggling and slavery. Tatooine is one example of an Outer Rim planet, which was home to many important people in Star Wars history, including Anakin Skywalker, his son Luke Skywalker and for a period of time, Obi-wan Kenobi.
