[edit] The Begginings of an Empire
The Saitan empite, like all successful Empires, was born into a time of desperate need. A large convoy containing desperately needed aid to the beleagured world of Xereos was severely damaged by a pirate fleet, but they managed to beat the pirates back. However, all ships were either destroyed with all hands, or simply too damaged to remain in hyperspace for any second longer. On exiting Hyperspace, a detailed damage assessment was carried out onboard every ship, and it was found that a complex and as yet unencountered weapon the Pirates had used had destroyed beyond repair every Hyperspace Engine in the fleet in areas difficult to repair, and that was assuming the ships all carried the appropriate spare parts. This was not the case, as every spare space had been allocated to bringing supplies to the beleagured planet.
The Admiral of the fleet, Admiral Severin Kruscheff decided that he had no choice but to set down on the nearest planet and barter their precious cargo as possible for the required components. Easier said than done, as in this highly volotile region of space, all planets who were in a position to help were suspicious and would not let them enter orbit. The 'damaged fleet' routine had been used once too many times in the past, the end to many planets in the region.
The Admiral was left facing a stark choice, continue to their objective in normal space, a journey that would take 56 years, turn for home in real space, 37 years, either of these journeys would have been at least three times longer than the food they were carrying for Xereos would last, and that did not count fuel consumption. The last option, and the one the admiral begrudgingly took was to land on the uninhabited planet of Saitus 7.
[edit] The First Planet of a new Empire
It did not take long for the ships' crews to begin the monotonous task of assessing the damage in the most thorough way, now with an external check possible. The reports were worse than what the admiral had recieved in flight, not a single ship would be able to lift off this rock in space without significant repairs, repairs that would be inpossible to barter, even with the riches stowed in their ships' holds.
For several weeks, they focused on making a single fighter spaceworthy. Using components from nigh on every ship in the fleet, they made the fighter's hyperspace engine capable of low yield flight. The admiral gave the pilot a message, which was to be taken home at all costs. Nothing is known of the fate of this aircraft, but it certainly did not make it to its destination.
After several weeks, Kruscheff decided to take his most desperate step yet, he prepared for building, this stopover would be for the long haul. Within a year, the new planet was booming, with its first satalites in orbit, and most of the smaller ships repaired to the point of real space flight, and several newer ones, though as yet, these were of cruder manufacture. It was not long before these men and women began to feel seperated from their mother cultuure. Seperation grew into unrest, and frustration, until the inevitable referendum. 'Do we begin our own nation planet?' the answer was a 78% 'Yes' vote victory. Within another year, the first of a line of colony ships were produced, and the virgin empire expanded.
[edit] Klaxx
The new planet of Klaxx had vast reserves of Deuterium and crystal that it soon became the hub of Research, Shipbuilding, and also became the main base of the new and growing Saitan Navy.
[edit] The Delias System
The other colonies were to be located in a single system. Far away from Saitus 7 and Klaxx, this new colony system comprised of 7 planets.
These were all colonised with the sole aim of producing the materials with which the last planet, christened Digital Fortress could use to build ships, research new technologiers, and fulfil other tasks.
[edit] The Story to this day
The new Saitan Empire has now reached about the same level of thechnology as the civilisation from which it sprung. It has progressed in leaps and bounds to be one of the up and coming galactic powers, and recently sent a messenger fleet back to its ancestor planet, only to find asteroids. Exactly what happened, they do not know, but they do know that their ancestor civilisation crossed a foe far too powerful, with weapons capable of destroying entire planets.
