Vamp, raised in Romania, was young when he was in a church explosion where he was the only survivor and as he was buried in all the rubble, had to keep sustenance by drinking the blood of his family, which explains how he got the name Vamp.
Vamp is a skilled knife thrower and is not seen using weapons such as guns and swords. He appears to be some sort of supernatural being as he can survive a bullet to the head and can walk/run on water.
Although Raiden shoots him with a sniper rifle in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty he appears at the end of the game inside a car. It has been confirmed in an online preview of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, that Vamp has returned.
